In Single Woman of a Certain Age, Jane Ganahl assembles a chorus of sophisticated and witty voices for this revealing anthology about flying solo in midlife. Joyce Maynard and Dakota Cassidy try online hookups, Debra Ginsberg brings up the M-word, Cameron Tuttle goes on a date (with herself), Susan Griffin finds joy in solitude, and Rachel Toor finally finds companionship — the four-legged kind.Reflecting on the (mostly) ups and (sometimes) downs of women cruising past 40, these writers address the challenges and rewards of growing older as a single woman: sex, loneliness, motherhood, learning to live alone, financial struggles, blossoming careers, menopause, and more. Contributors include April Sinclair, Cameron Tuttle, Spike Gillespie, Laura Fraser, Susan Griffin, Jane Juska, Joyce Maynard, Sunny Singh and more.

Women of the Baby Boom generation have been advised to expect one of these scenarios as they get older. Which is more likely for boomer women? Instead of a fear of aging or the baglady image of insecurity, Zimmerman suggests a framework that can help boomer women to understand the situations they find themselves in as they grow older, and become advocates on their own behalfs. In opposition to the devastatingly ageist and sexist images of older women in a youth besotted popular culture, she describes the many positive aspects of future boomer women's lives; the independence they gain as they shed the roles and obligations of their younger years; the opportunities their longevity affords for future growth and development; new family dynamics of grandparenthood; the seldom heralded strengths of friendships which are cornerstones of their lives. These must be balanced against the challenges that women still face as they grow older. Using recent data, Zimmerman examines the pension system, caregiving, and workforce inequalities, and suggests needed changes. Armed with information such as this, older women will feel a surge of confidence, better prepared to become advocates for "the missing revolution" – that of midlife and older women.

Tian Dayton's companion to her best-selling recovery classic Daily Affirmations for Forgiving & Moving On guides women to seek the power of forgiveness and heal their past wounds. Forgiveness is not an event, it is a process. Forgiveness is most powerful when a woman reaches midlife: a natural time for reflection when she stands at a biological and emotional crossroads. In this groundbreaking book-the first of its kind for women-acclaimed therapist Tian Dayton shows women how assessing their lives and forgiving old wounds are as essential to their well-being as proper nutrition and retirement planning. In forgiving, we must work through layers of issues, pain and resentment. Because of this, the process is of great psychological, emotional and spiritual benefit. Left unresolved, past hurts wield their power from within and can contribute to depression and anxiety, undermining the immune system and ultimately opening the door to a multitude of diseases. And harboring resentment prevents us from engaging in deep, meaningful relationships. Through solid research, poignant case studies and personal examples, Dr. Dayton guides women through the sometimes painful but healing process to provide the comfort that may have eluded them for years. This beautifully written book will open women's eyes to the liberating power of forgiveness and provide the ability to find true joy.

Second Wind is the story of an unlikely athlete and an unlikely heroine: Cami Ostman, a woman edging toward midlife who decides to take on a challenge that stretches her way outside of her comfort zone. That challenge presents itself when an old friend suggests she go for a run to distract her from the grief of her recent divorce. Excited by the clarity of mind and breathing space running offers her, she keeps it up — albeit slowly — and she decides to run seven marathons on seven continents; this becomes Ostman’s vision quest, the thing she turns to during the ups and downs of a new romance and during the hard months and years of redefining herself in the aftermath of the very restrictive, religious-based marriage and life she led up until her divorce. Insightful and uplifting, Second Wind carries the reader along for the ride as Ostman runs her way out of compliance with the patriarchal rules about “being a woman” that long held her captive and into authenticity and self-love. Her adventures — and the personal revelations that accompany them — inspire readers to take chances, find truth in their lives, and learn to listen to the voice inside them that’s been there all along.
